The Batur Convertible: Elevating the Art of Luxury and Performance

In the elite world of luxury automotive craftsmanship, Bentley stands unmatched in its pursuit of perfection. Their latest creation, the Batur Convertible, represents a new pinnacle in bespoke motoring. This extraordinary vehicle, born from the meticulous collaboration between Bentley Motors and Mulliner—Bentley’s distinguished bespoke division—epitomizes the very essence of luxury, performance, and personalization. As the third coachbuilt Bentley of the modern era, following the exquisite Bacalar barchetta and Batur coupe, the Batur Convertible is a testament to Mulliner’s unrivaled expertise in crafting uniquely tailored automobiles.

A Heritage of Unparalleled Craftsmanship

Bentley’s Mulliner division, recognized as the oldest coachbuilder in the world, infuses the Batur Convertible with a heritage of unparalleled craftsmanship. Every element of this vehicle reflects Mulliner’s dedication to creating bespoke cars that meet the exacting standards of their discerning clientele. The Batur Convertible is not merely a car; it is a mobile work of art, meticulously crafted to offer a unique driving experience.

Seamless Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

The Batur Convertible carries forward the groundbreaking design philosophy introduced by its coupe sibling, a design language that will shape Bentley’s future vehicles. Central to the Batur Convertible is the most powerful version of Bentley’s iconic W12 engine—a 750 PS, 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged marvel. This engine has been a cornerstone of Bentley’s success for two decades and is a fitting powertrain for one of the final models to feature this legendary engine.

Embracing the Grand Touring Spirit

Bentley’s storied history of open-cockpit cars dates back to the very first Bentley of 1919. The Batur Convertible continues this legacy, merging the design elements of the Bacalar and Batur with the practicality of a convertible. The “wraparound” cockpit, inspired by the Bacalar, underscores the car's two-seater character, while the dramatic “airbridge” and tapered cowls behind the seats evoke the spirit of classic barchetta sports cars. These features not only enhance the car's aesthetic appeal but also provide a semi-enclosed luggage compartment, ensuring practicality without compromising style.

The convertible roof, a modern and tactile alternative to a hardtop, can be deployed or stowed in just 19 seconds, even while the car is moving at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h). This transforms the vehicle from a luxurious coupe into an open-top Grand Tourer at the touch of a button, providing a versatile driving experience that is as enjoyable in the city as it is on the open road.

The Pinnacle of Personalization

One of the most distinctive aspects of the Batur Convertible is the extraordinary level of personalization it offers. Bentley’s clients can work directly with Mulliner’s in-house design team to create a car that is truly unique. Using a specially created Mulliner visualizer, customers can customize every aspect of the car’s color and surface finish. The process is enhanced by endless samples of unique materials, allowing clients to experiment with textures and designs to create a vehicle that perfectly reflects their personal style.

From the exterior paint to the interior finishes, the options are virtually limitless. Clients can choose from the full Mulliner color palette or opt for fully bespoke paint and hand-painted graphics. The exterior brightware can be specified in any combination of light and dark, satin or gloss, or even titanium. A particularly striking option is the graduated contrast color for the front grille, which creates a vibrant ombre effect.

Inside the cabin, the personalization continues. One of the most exclusive options available is the use of 3D-printed rose gold for key driver touchpoints, such as the Bentley Drive Mode Selector and the start/stop button. This luxurious material is also used for Bentley’s iconic Organ Stop vent controls and as an insert marker on the steering wheel. These bespoke elements are crafted in collaboration with expert goldsmiths from Birmingham’s historic Jewelry Quarter, highlighting Bentley’s ability to blend traditional craftsmanship with advanced manufacturing technologies.

Exclusive Craftsmanship and Power

Production of the Batur Convertible is limited to just 16 pieces, each handcrafted over several months at Bentley’s carbon-neutral factory in Crewe, England. This exclusivity, combined with the car’s exceptional performance and bespoke design, ensures that each Batur Convertible is a true collector’s item.

The vehicle’s W12 powertrain, shared with its coupe counterpart, features a revised intake system, upgraded turbochargers, new intercoolers, and extensive recalibration to deliver 750 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque. This powerful engine, paired with Bentley’s eight-speed double-clutch transmission, provides exceptional performance and a driving experience that is both dynamic and refined. The sports exhaust, made entirely of titanium with 3D-printed titanium finishers, produces a sound that complements the car’s high-performance capabilities.

A Showcase of Engineering Excellence

Even the engineering development car, known as Batur Convertible Car #0, showcases the same level of meticulous detail and bespoke craftsmanship as a customer’s vehicle. The car’s paintwork is a bespoke color—Vermillion Gloss over Vermillion Satin Duo tone—creating a vibrant and contemporary appearance. High-gloss carbon fiber elements, including the front splitters, side skirts, and rear diffuser, underscore the car’s modern design.

The front grille, a masterpiece of design, features a main matrix finished in Gloss Dark Titanium, accented with contrast chevrons in a horizontal ombre pattern. This flows from Beluga in the center to the vibrant Vermillion Gloss on the sides. The “endless bonnet” line is finished in Gloss Dark Titanium paint, matching the 22-inch wheels with spokes in Gloss and Satin Black Titanium and Vermillion Gloss accents.

The Future of Automotive Luxury

The Batur Convertible represents more than just a new model in Bentley’s lineup. It signifies the future direction of the brand, combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology and design. As Bentley transitions towards a more sustainable future, the Batur Convertible serves as a bridge between the past and the future, celebrating the iconic W12 engine while embracing new possibilities in automotive design and performance.

The Ultimate Expression of Luxury

The Batur Convertible is a testament to Bentley’s enduring commitment to luxury, performance, and personalization. Coachbuilt by Mulliner, this extraordinary vehicle exemplifies the artistry and craftsmanship that define Bentley, while offering a glimpse into the future of the brand. For those fortunate enough to own one of these limited-edition masterpieces, the Batur Convertible is not just a car—it is an expression of individuality, a work of art, and a celebration of the finest in automotive engineering.

In the realm of luxury automobiles, the Batur Convertible stands as a beacon of what is possible when tradition meets innovation, and when performance is matched by unparalleled attention to detail. This remarkable vehicle is a fitting tribute to Bentley’s illustrious history and a bold statement about its future, ensuring that the legacy of Mulliner and the spirit of Bentley will continue to inspire and captivate for generations to come.
