In a stunning display of philanthropy and fashion, the 2024 Saks Fifth Avenue Lake Tahoe Fundraiser has once again set the bar high, raising an unprecedented $1.4 million for the League to Save Lake Tahoe. This record-breaking achievement not only underscores the enduring appeal of this annual event but also highlights the powerful synergy between luxury fashion and environmental stewardship.

The fundraiser, held last weekend, marked a significant milestone in the event's illustrious history, bringing the total funds raised for the League to over $25 million. Last year’s event had already set a high standard with $1.2 million raised, but this year’s remarkable outcome reinforces the growing commitment of both the fashion community and its patrons to the preservation of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Alex Bolen, CEO of Oscar de la Renta, emphasized the unique connection the event fosters between the brand and its clientele. “This show gives us a unique opportunity to connect with our customers – existing and new – in a spectacular setting,” Bolen said in a statement. His words echo the sentiment that this event is about more than just showcasing fashion; it’s about creating lasting relationships and contributing to a cause that resonates deeply with the brand’s values.

A Legacy of Fashion and Philanthropy

The origins of this iconic fundraiser date back to 1969, when the late Bill Blass and Saks Fifth Avenue’s James J. Ludwig envisioned a fashion event that would captivate the Bay Area’s elite during their summer retreats to Lake Tahoe. What started as a barefoot beachside presentation in Rubicon Bay has since evolved into one of the most anticipated events on the fashion calendar, with Oscar de la Renta taking the reins in 1999.

Over the decades, the event has grown in prestige, attracting high-profile guests and patrons committed to the cause. This year, the Oscar de la Renta pre-spring 2025 collection was unveiled at an exclusive luncheon hosted by the Schumacher family at their Lake Tahoe residence. While Fernando Garcia, co-creative director of the house, was in attendance, his counterpart Laura Kim was notably absent due to another commitment. Nevertheless, the collection, characterized by its timeless elegance and innovative design, captivated the audience and reinforced the brand’s status as a leader in luxury fashion.

A New Era for Fashion Presentations

The 2024 fundraiser also marked a continuation of Oscar de la Renta’s evolving approach to fashion presentations. Moving away from traditional runway shows, the brand now focuses on intimate, client-centric events that align with charitable causes. Following a successful presentation at the New York Botanical Garden in June, the Lake Tahoe fundraiser represented the second outing for the pre-spring 2025 collection. This strategy not only enhances the exclusivity of the brand but also deepens the connection between the designs and their patrons.

Emily Essner, chief marketing officer at Saks, spoke to the importance of this event within the broader context of the retailer’s mission. “At Saks, we’re committed to offering inspiring, unforgettable experiences while using our platform to support important causes,” Essner remarked. “We’re proud to see the outsized impact this event has contributed to protecting the health and beauty of the Lake Tahoe Basin.” Her statement reflects the growing trend of luxury brands leveraging their influence to drive social and environmental change, proving that fashion can indeed be a force for good.

The Power of Purpose-Driven Fashion

As the 2024 Saks Fifth Avenue Lake Tahoe Fundraiser draws to a close, its impact will be felt far beyond the stunning shores of Lake Tahoe. The $1.4 million raised is more than just a financial contribution; it’s a testament to the power of purpose-driven fashion and the profound effect it can have on both the industry and the world.

In a time when the intersection of luxury and responsibility is more important than ever, this event serves as a shining example of how fashion can inspire, influence, and, ultimately, make a difference. With the continued support of Oscar de la Renta, Saks Fifth Avenue, and their loyal patrons, the future of the Lake Tahoe Basin—and the fashion world—looks brighter than ever.
